It’s official…Hollywood is on strike. The actor unio SAG-AFTRA joined the writers strike on Friday. The WAG has been on Strike since early May and both unions are calling for fairer contracts. The SAG union represents not only screen actors, but journalists, radio personalities, broadcasters, and voice actors. The strike is likely to put a hold on some podcast productions that include voice acting and narration and will affect huge events like the San Diego Comic-Con where actors and even cosplayers are unlikely to show. It’s the first time both writers and performers have been on strike at the same time in 63 years. You can learn more about the strikes on the Deadline’s Strike Talk.
There are a number of news podcasts that are being censored by Meta (on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) in Canada after the Canadian government passed a new bill requiring tech companies to pay to link to news content. Some journalist are calling it extortion.
