This week, we hosted our WOC Podcasters Open House—and I walked away feeling something I don’t always get from industry events: seen. I met so many amazing women looking for a home while on their podcasting journey. So many are tired of the “podcast bros” taking over the industry and feeling like there isn’t room for women like them.
I got to share what we’ve been building behind the scenes. Not just a Slack channel or a monthly Zoom room—but a whole ecosystem centered on visibility, support, and joy for Black and brown women podcasters.
A lot of people know the name. Fewer know the universe.
So this week’s Newsflow is for the folks who have ever wondered, “What exactly does WOC Podcasters do?” Or even better: “What does community look like when it’s done with intention?”
What’s Happening
WOC Podcasters isn’t just a membership. It’s a multi-layered space designed to help you grow your way. And this month, we’ve made our universe even more visible:
🌐 WOC Sisterhood Connect: Our guest matching program helping members find aligned guests and collab opportunities—because your voice deserves to be heard on more stages (available to members and non-members).
🗂️ WOC Podcasters Spotlight: A public, growing directory of Black and brown women podcasters—because we’re done waiting to be discovered. We’re making ourselves discoverable (available to members and non-members).
🗓️ Public Community Calendar: Want to see what’s going on each month? This new calendar showcases upcoming workshops, coworking sessions, and open events—and gives non-members a peek into the magic happening inside.
And that’s just the surface.
Every workshop. Every check-in. Every AMA. Every challenge. Every resource we create is with one goal in mind:
To support the voices that have been too often overlooked in this space.
Why It Matters
Podcasting has always been about more than just publishing episodes. It’s about storytelling. Legacy. Representation. Healing. Ownership.
But for Black and brown women, the road has often felt lonely. Underfunded. Underpromoted. And too often, underappreciated. WOC Podcasters exists to change that.
We don’t just talk about inclusion—we build for it. We don’t just wait to be seen—we make ourselves visible. And we don’t gatekeep. We uplift.
Because community shouldn’t be something you have to earn. It should be a space where you already belong.
Your Move
This week, here’s how you can step into our universe:
✅ Check out our public calendar and mark a date to join us (you’ll see what’s possible).
✅ Tell a friend about the WOC Podcasters Spotlight—especially if they’re looking for new shows, creators, or voices to amplify.
✅ Submit your show if you're a Black or brown woman podcaster and haven’t added it yet. You belong on that list.
✅ If you’re a member: Invite someone who’s been watching quietly from the sidelines.
✅ If you’re not a member yet: Come explore. No pressure. No pitch. Just community.
Bottom Line
WOC Podcasters is a living, breathing network of stories. We’re not a moment. We’re not a hashtag. We’re not a monthly feature during theme months. We’re a movement.
And we’re just getting started.
💬 What would it mean for your podcasting journey to be part of an ecosystem that’s built specifically for you?
Help Us Grow WOC Voices in Podcasting
Our growth fuels access, equity, and sustainability.
Right now, less than 3% of our Substack audience are paid subscribers. But even a small shift would mean a lot. We’re one paid subscriber away from being able to offer a free membership. With your support:
🟣 At 5% paid, we could offer free memberships to Black and brown women who can’t afford to join the community
🟣 At 10%, we could fund monthly workshops, templates, and resources for indie creators
🟣 At 20%, we could offer microgrants, bring on contributors, and expand the directory
We’re building something community-driven, creator-led, and deeply intentional.
