Brittany was in Legoland this week, which meant I was keeping the show running. It's actually been a pretty quiet week since a lot of our production clients are on summer break. But our network shows are still pushing out episodes - which we love to see. I've been focused a lot on the back end of the business and streamlining processes to help us run smoothly. We also brought on a new production manager, which we are super excited about. If you guys are interested in a “Meet the Team” issue, let me know! Let's get into what happened this week.
In podcasting rankings, iHeart Media has taken the top spot in May's Triton Digital US Podcast Ranker, which is being measured by the service for the first time. The “iHeart Audience Network” reported 67,355,410 average weekly downloads, 76% more than the previous #1 network, SiriusXM. iHeart also holds the #1 position with Podtrac.

Podcast app Castro now supports WebSub, enabling quicker updates for new episodes. Currently, 25% of the most popular shows on its app already have this support.
Headliner has introduced an automatic posting feature to TikTok, allowing creators to automatically create and post engaging TikTok videos every time they upload a new episode.
Libsyn has integrated YouTube Music’s API, allowing podcasters to upload shows to YouTube automatically. Announced at Podcast Movement Evolutions in March, the API automates the process of syncing your RSS feed with YouTube and pulls in statistics from YouTube to a separate page in the Libsyn dashboard.
Sports fans really love their favorite players. According to the newly released Sports Audio Report from Edison Research, SiriusXM Media, and GroupM, 76% of sports podcast listeners continue to follow athletes even if they are traded to a new team, compared to 51% of sports fans who don't listen to sports podcasts.
The Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report 2024 highlights the continued growth of podcast listeners worldwide. The report states, “Podcasts continue to attract younger, wealthier, and better-educated audiences, with news and politics shows heavily skewed towards men, partly due to the dominance of male hosts.” It also notes that many markets are saturated with content, making it challenging for new shows to be discovered and for existing shows to grow their audiences.

The art of dialogue editing from Radio Boot Camp - June 23rd at 1pm EST: When should you cut stammers and ums and when should you leave them? What if your guest snort-laughs? Should you cut those? The answer: sometimes. We often cut for time or because we’re worried it will annoy or distract listeners, but engineer and producer Michael Raphael demonstrates the power of voice and explains how our cadence, accents, and patterns of speech are one of the last bastions of regionalism. He’ll teach you the finer points of dialogue editing and you’ll leave class with a solid understanding of how you can preserve these powerful and critical identifiers of who we are and how we tell stories.
