5 facts that prove the podcast industry is rigged
— and why the WOC Podcasters Community matters
I’ll be dropping some emails in the next few weeks about our WOC Podcasters Community. If this isn’t for you, I encourage you to share with a friend who might be interested and stick around for the weekly Friday Newsflow.
I don’t have to tell you how hard it is for women of color in podcasting — you already know! But it is validating when the numbers agree with you. Because we’ll always show up and show out for you, I’ve got FIVE statistics that say, “Yup, you’re right. This is fucked up”.
According to PodNews and Spotify:
47% of multicultural women have a hard time finding podcasts that focus on women of color
57% of Multicultural Women (and 67% of women aged 18-24) wish that more podcasts focused on women of color
Only 22% of podcasts are hosted by women
There are even fewer minority women-hosted podcasts
55% of women listeners say they would listen to more podcasts if there were more that included female stories and perspectives
In a nutshell, podcast listeners want to hear from you — but they can’t find you. Whether it’s because male, non-POC podcasts get more advertising power and attention or you haven’t started your show yet (p.s. if you haven’t yet, we think you should go for it) — fact of the matter is there’s a need and desire for your voice.
And not knowing how to start or what to do after you’ve started shouldn’t hold you back from getting into their listening ears.
That’s why the WOC Podcasters Community is so important.
It’s the first community of its kind dedicated to growing and representing women of color in the podcasting industry.
Where you can make the kind of soul-deep connections that leave a lasting impression on your spirit and your career.
And learn valuable information from us and other industry experts — the kind of insight that was made for you, that non-POC podcasters don’t think about or talk enough about.
Plus, you can share resources with other women of color in podcasting, because we all win when one of us wins.
Get in where you fit in. We’ve been waiting for you ❤️🔥
