I finally found my stride this week after being on the daylight-saving struggle bus last week! My co-owner Brittany is in LA making connections and recording with some amazing hosts for our first network-produced show (more on that later), so I’m holding down the fort here at home. Let’s get into what happened in podcasting this week.
Edison Research revealed the most popular podcasts among U.S. women, with Joe Rogan surprisingly securing the number two spot. Notably, half of the top ten podcasts are hosted by women but only one features a woman of color. We hope we can change that in the future!
According to Sara Lebow, teenagers favor YouTube over TikTok for daily app use, indicating YouTube's continued appeal to younger audiences and its effectiveness as a platform for podcasts to reach Gen Z.
Ariel Shapiro reports that The Ringer's union secured significant AI protections in their latest contract. It mandates Spotify to obtain a host's explicit consent for AI-generated voice simulations, except for language translations of podcasts. Spotify can bypass consent but must include a disclaimer if requested by the employee.
Vice President of Marketing Rich Romano announced that Libsyn is set to rebrand the AdvertiseCast Marketplace as Libsyn Ads. The new branding aims to streamline customer interactions and will be officially unveiled at Podcast Movement: Evolutions in Los Angeles, where Libsyn will be featured at booth #15.
