Lori L. Tharps, a celebrated author, journalist, and former tenured college professor, brilliantly navigates the realms of race and popular culture through her work. She has penned three non-fiction books acclaimed for their insightful exploration of race, culture, and identity: "Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America" (St. Martin’s Press), "Kinky Gazpacho: Life, Love & Spain" (Atria), and "Same Family Different Colors: Confronting Colorism in America’s Diverse Families" (Beacon Press).
In addition to her non-fiction, Lori is the creative mind behind the novel "Substitute Me" (Atria) and three celebrity memoirs. Her written contributions extend to prestigious publications like The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Essence, Glamour, and Entertainment Weekly.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lori now resides in southern Spain with her husband, their children, and a petite dog who likes to think of himself as a poodle.
